KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Wing of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a man who was accused of financing Indian spies through an established hawala and hundi network in Karachi, ARY News reported on Friday.
The arrested man was identified as Yaseen, who is allegedly a manager of a money exchange company.
Sources said that the officials of FIA’s counter-terrorism wing have arrested Yaseen during a raid conducted in Saddar area of the metropolis. The arrest was made over the revelations of some detained suspects associated with the Indian prime intel agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
Sources also revealed that the suspect was involved in distributing money among the anti-state elements and Indian spies through hawala and hundi network. Moreover, the raiding team also recovered a laptop and mobile phone from his possession.
The intel agency continued raids to arrest his accomplices and also provided details to the airports regarding the others suspects at large. The latest arrest exposed the conspiracies of India to destabilise Pakistan through terror-financing in violation of regulations of Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
Earlier on July 15, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested a key operative of a sleeper cell of Indian prime intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), who was identified as Zafar.
The accused received terror-related training from the Mehmood Siddique group in New Delhi, India. Zafar was also involved in the transfer of arms and ammunition. He is affiliated with MQM’s London group, officials claimed. The arrested man was a government employee in the Karachi fire department.
FIA had also arrested two employees of Money Exchange Company for providing funds to the RAW sleeper cell. “The one arrested man named Sufiyan was director of Money Exchange Company while the other identified, as Jawed Memon, was working as a manager in the company,” said FIA official.
The FIA officials had recovered laptops, weapons and mobile phones from the possession of arrested employees. The accused were arrested from Karachi’s Khalid Bin Waleed Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad and Civic Center area.
The FIA had started an inquiry into the matter after registering a case against criminals.
